Rice has been used as a bio reactor, to produce recombinant proteins for some time. As one of the most understood and studied crops in the world, rice is a natural candidate for large-scale protein production.
Transformed rice is a stable feature of the biotechnology landscape. In fact, Illimar Altosaar, Founder of Proteins Easy led the first team to express recombinant protein in rice in 1997.
Our technology uses rice as a novel bio reactor. Once PECrice is harvested, the dry extraction of your target protein can be harvested at your convenience. Proteins Easy aims to make complex purification schemes, and their related solvents, aqueous buffers, and purification columns virtually obsolete.

Illimar has been working with cereal genetics and molecular mechanisms for more than 40 years. He has been funded by Quaker Oats, The Rockefeller Foundation, Monsanto, and Bayer. His diverse experience in biotechnology led him to envision our protein purification technology.
